Walgreens and Express Scripts

What happened is that during the past year Walgreens negotiated with Express Scripts to continue as a member its pharmacy provider network. The result was not an agreement. Since Jan 1st, 2012 Walgreens is no longer a member of Express Scipts’ pharmacy provider network.
But who is affected by this? Only patients with certain prescription insurance plans that are managed by Express Scripts are affected. Of course, patients covered by Express Scripts not only have to change pharmacy but, in many cases, these patients have to drive farther to find a pharmacy to get their prescription filled. And what is Walgreens doing to help customers? Walgreens does many things. First of all, they offer a special discount on annual membership for its Prescription Savings Club: Walgreens Prescription Savings Club
This means that for $10 a year, a family membership covers everyone in the immediate family, including a spouse, dependents aged 22 and younger. In addition, it includes pets as well. Individuals can apply to for $5. You can join and receive discount prices on your prescriptions.
Moreover, you can save on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications. There are also discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies. And of course, bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services.
