Lisbon - three most impressive attractions

Portugal's capital city is one of Europe's tourism hotspots. With a whole range of exciting sights to check out it's hard for visitors to know what to cram in to a short city break. You've got enough on your plate to worry about - booking the right hotel, buying foreign currency, etc - so rather than spend hours researching which parts of the city to take in during your trip, take a look at the following list outlining three of Lisbon's most impressive attractions.
  1. Gulbenkian Museum. Experience some culture at the Gulbenkian Museum - or Museu Calouste Gulbenkian - which houses a large collection of ancient art including stunning examples of Persian art, Egyptian sculptures and paintings by artists such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Renoir among many, many more. For those with more contemporary tastes, the museum also contains a small selection of modern art. Add to that the two concert halls that stage regular music and ballet performances and you've got somewhere that offers something for everyone. The Gulbenkian Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5.45pm.
  2. Lisbon Oceanarium. Featuring a 5,000 square-metre tank, the Oceanario de Lisboa is a truly stunning attraction. The main tank utilises four huge acrylic windows at the side, giving the illusion that the tank stretches far off into the horizon. The building opened in 1998 and has been attracting an average of one million visitors per year ever since. Breathtaking and educational, the Oceanarium is an absolute must. It's open year-round; summer opening times being 10am - 8pm, with last entry taking place at 7pm.
  3. Monument to the Discoveries. A 52-metre high landmark of distinctive design, the Monument to the Discoveries - or Padrao dos Descobrimentos - is a tribute to 33 Portuguese who made a significant contribution to the Age of Discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries. Honouring historical greats from disciplines such as science, art, cartography and exploration, the monument was originally built as part of the Portuguese World Fair in 1940 - however, perishable materials were used so it underwent rebuilding work in 1960 using concrete to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator. The monument can be found at the estuary of the Tagus river in the Belem area of Lisbon.

    London parks

London is one of the biggest metropolises in the world, but it also has plenty of open spaces if you're looking for some rest and relaxation on your city break. In between the tall buildings and hectic streets lay vast oasises of green; and a handful of the best luxury hotels have an excellent park view to complete the picture. Here's a lowdown on the best parks to visit in London.
    1. Richmond Park
Bathed in history, the vast Richmond Park was once Henry VIII's personal hunting ground and it has retained both its country vibe and deer population! Although it is located in Southwest London (outside of the 'centre'), it's well worth the visit for a touch of what old England was like. The huge size means there's plenty to explore too, from pond walks and botanical gardens to historical houses serving ice-cream and tea. A real highlight is the 'keyhole': from here you can see straight through to Saint Paul's Cathedral on a clear day.
    2. Regents Park
The most central and glamorous of London's parks, Regents is alive with colorful flowers and city dwellers catching the sunshine. Its bound to be packed on a sunny day but this buzz is part of its charm. There are numerous small garden areas to take refuge in and a large pond to rent pedloes if you're feeling extra romantic. Families might want to check out London Zoo as well, which is along the canal at the north end of the park.
    3. Hampsread Heath
Rambling and wild, Hampstead Heath is another real gem in summer time. Just north of the centre, you can get lost on Hampstead Heath amongst the trees and hills. Most people come here for the view from the top of Box Hill, where the whole city lies sprawling before you, but the best parts of the heath are the more hidden and selcuded spaces that give the impression that you're anywhere other than in the midst of a giant city. The old-fashioned and chic Hampstead Village is also well worth a wander afterwards as there are some top class pubs with gardens and patios, alongside quaint shops and cafes.
    4. Victoria Park
Out in East London, the sprawling Victoria Park is much less popular or known by visitors but still has plenty of open space and picturesque views to offer. Residents in the now trendy East End know it well, though, so expect plenty of cool kids taking a break here on the grass. If you're after activity, take a long and interesting walk along the tow path beside the canal to see some off the beaten track sights in this overlooked part of the city. Victoria Park is also a hotbed of entertainment in the summer - expect festivals, concerts and music on the weekends.

    Quit a bad habit

Everybody knows how addictive smoking can be but it is only smokers who truly know the difficulty, frustration and upset that is involved in giving up such a habit. When you travel it is even more difficult since smoking is forbidden in airports and not only.
There are many products out there which claim to help you give up cigarettes completely. These include nicotine patches and mint flavoured nicotine gums, as well as various tablets which claim to help you ease your nicotine addiction over time. And then there is the age old favourite - pure "will power."
Some you may have tried these methods, and if you have succeeded- then good for you. If you find quitting very drastic and difficult, you may try other safer smoking aids like the latest innovation -

    The creators project

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of goviral. All opinions are 100% mine.
Are you aware of the creators project?
The Creators Project was born from a partnership between Intel and Vice. Together the two companies met over a shared passion for art and creativity, and a common belief that there was a better way of elevating artists and supporting new work with them. For both Intel and Vice, status quo is simply not good enough.
But what is actually the Creators project?
The Creators Project is a new network dedicated to the celebration of creativity and culture across media, and around the world.
The Creators Project has two mandates: on one hand it’s a modern day media channel that we will continually identify and celebrate the work of visionary artists wherever they are. On the other hand, it is also a content creation studio, an arts foundation of sorts that will facilitate the production and dissemination of new work with these artists and their collaborators.
Some upcoming events are the Launch event in New York  on June 26th, 2010 and The Creators Project conquers London! on July 17th, 2010.
In the first video that follows you can see Phoenix talk to VICE on their latest album and their touring. In the second video Sadler, well, its reality and imagination at the same time.

    South America travel info

Now that you have already considered traveling to South America, all you have to do now is know a thing or two about this continent. Learning about the destination you're going to is very important for you to enjoy the all the things that South America has to offer.
South America is a very large continent and it has a weather condition similar to that of Australia. There are some places that are rainy during December and March like Altiplano region and there are times that it is hot and sultry in Rio de Janeiro most of the time.
When it comes to communicating with the locals, bear in mind that English is not widely spoken in South America. Spanish is the language officially spoken in most South American places. It is advisable for you to purchase a small Spanish and/or Portuguese dictionary. Try to learn a few words as you go along the way, so that communicating with the locals won't be that difficult. It might even be a fun experience.
Tipping is already a way of life even in South America, so it definitely won't hurt if you give tips to chambermaids and other service workers as payment for their hospitality.
If you're interested in shopping, then you'll be happy to know that South America is the ultimate shopping capital for shopaholics. There are tons of goods made of gold, silver and leather that you can choose from. You can haggle with the prices of merchandises in small shops. Bolivia and Peru are known for their sweaters, blankets and Alpaca rugs.

    NMEDA.org

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.
It is really important to have the right support when we take care of elderly people or people with a disability.
Dealing with the hassles of transportation is the last thing that a person with a physical disability should have to worry about. The stress associated with trying to move from one place to the next is enough to keep them indoors, away from the rest of the world.
NMEDA can help; how? It is a non-profit trade association that focuses on consumer education on finding the right adapted wheelchair vehicle which has the best fit to the elderly or people with disability needs and lifestyle.
Why choose a dealer from NMEDA’s network? Because they conduct on-site evaluations to custom fit vehicles to our specific needs.
Moreover, NMEDA has Quality Assurance Program (QAP) dealers which have a systematic and documented approach to quality. Interesting, right?
We all know that is not an easy thing to be a caregiver especially when it comes to transportation issues for the elderly or people with disability. And this is where NMEDA comes in the picture; it can help caregivers in finding the right adapted wheelchair vehicle.
You can visit NMEDA’s web site (www.nmeda.org) and click on the dealers locator. This way you can find the dealer which is closer to you. After locating the dealer, please leave a relative comment to this post.

    Invitations

Many people choose to combine their wedding with their honeymoon and travel abroad. An item which is really important, as far as wedding preparations are concerned, is invitation.
The invitation you choose will set the tone for the celebration you are planning. Whether you are searching for unique wedding invitations, baby or bridal shower invitations, or party invitations; you want the recipient to begin anticipating your event as soon as they open the envelope. And there are many styles to choose from - sweet and simple, to unique and elegant.
Some of the most popular trends in invitations include the use of beading, ribbons, and uniquely shaped cards and inserts.
These trimmings will delight your guests and impress them with your style before they even arrive at the party. You can also coordinate your invitations with the decor of your party: flower arrangements, table settings, and napkin colors can all carry the same motif as your invitations. Some of the invitations available today are so beautiful your guests will be able to incorporate them into their scrapbooks and albums with pride.
Whether your taste is modern and hip, or classic and cultured-you will be able to find an invitation that you will cherish forever.

    Are you planning your trip?

When you are planning your trip there are some things you can fail to remember. Usually they are very useful things and their absence can cause some inconveniences. Depending on the length of your trip and the place you are going to the list of the necessary items will differ.
In any case, if you are going abroad you must have all the necessary documents.
    1) your foreign passport with visa (if necessary) 2) your tickets (plane, train, bus - just any) 3) your hotel voucher (if you stay in a hotel) 4) your insurance (if you have one)
So, when you plan to spend away from home only a couple of days you should only take your documents and a sufficient sum of money.
Some people live their city with a strong desire to forget about all that they have left in their motherland, but if you still want to be in touch with your relatives and friends you'd better to take your mobile. Of course,

Are you preparing to go on a camping vacation or even just a short camping trip? If you are, have you already gathered all of your camping gear and your other needed camping supplies? If you have yet to do so, it is something that you may want to soon think about doing, provided you have already made your arrangements on the 5th wheels.
If this is your first time trying to find and buy camping gear and camping supplies, you may be unsure as to where you should make your purchase or purchases from. What you will find is that you have a number of different options.
As far as camping gear is concerned, you will find that it is sold at a number of different locations, including both on and offline. One of the best places to buy camping gear from is stores that are often referred to as sports stores. Sports stores are stores that regularly sell sporting equipment and gear, like camping tents, baseball bats, fishing poles, and so forth. For an even larger selection of products, you may want to check out some online sports store retailers.
Department stores are also another place where you can buy camping gear from. A large number of department stores, especially those larger in size, regularly have camping tents, sleeping bags, and other camping gear pieces available for sale.
Last but not least, you may want to think about creating a camping gear and supplies checklist for yourself. A checklist will help to ensure that you and your camping party are fully prepared for your next camping adventure.
